Civic Academy

The “Derech Eretz” educational program trains activists, coordinators, and community leaders to address real-world local challenges.

The curriculum includes:

  • Practical skills: courses on fundraising, methods of civic engagement, and legal and financial tools.
  • Unique track: “Halacha for Secular People”: reimagining traditional norms as a resource for strengthening civic resilience. Youth program: building a talent pool of next-generation leaders.
  • Format: in-person and online. Instructors include active activists, lawyers, economists, and researchers. Each course concludes with a practical assignment: participants apply the tools they’ve learned to a specific challenge in their neighborhood or city.

Mission

Training a new generation of Israeli civic leaders equipped with the skills to establish and develop sustainable structures for local self-government and self-organization

Objectives

  • We are building a sustainable talent pool of civic leaders in Israeli cities who have proven experience in launching and supporting grassroots projects. Our graduates form the core workforce for local councils and municipal authorities.
  • We provide activists from Derech Eretz and partner organizations with access to standardized training and expert consultations. Our knowledge base covers key competencies: fundraising, legal support, methods of civic engagement, and effective community governance.
