Local initiatives

Local initiatives are the practical embodiment of the principle of grassroots governance. We work “on the ground,” turning residents’ civic requests into concrete results on every street. The movement provides direct support to activists, helping them solve the city’s problems on their own—from urban improvement and safety to building neighborhood communities. It is a living laboratory where a new model of Israeli civic responsibility is taking shape.

Mission

To provide every citizen with the tools to bring about real change in the urban environment and to turn the resolution of local issues into an effective mechanism for direct democracy.

Objectives

  • Tangible results on the ground. We have implemented hundreds of local projects across the country. We focus on ensuring that every community request—whether it involves street lighting, creating a park, or addressing safety concerns—receives a concrete, practical solution.
  • Supporting and scaling leadership. Providing Derech Eretz activists with direct organizational and expert support. We help local leaders take their ideas from concept to completed project, creating success stories that can be replicated in other cities.
  • Empowering residents as stakeholders. Transforming passive expectations of state assistance into active participation. We create an environment where residents recognize their responsibility for their neighborhood and gain real experience in collectively managing their community.
